Agoraphobia and Me - Books Ive Read

Books Ive read

Making A Good Brain Great:

Ive read a couple books dealing with panic disorder but these books are all of the above and arent "agoraphobia" or "panic disorder" specific.

Making A Good Brain Great: The Amen Clinic Program for Achieving and Sustaining Optimal Mental Performance this book is by Dr. Daniel Amen and his take on panic related disorders, certain mental illness and even Alzheimer's is usually brought on from brain trauma and/or also starving our brains from vital nutrients it needs. A few examples of brain food are: Blueberries and red meats contain protein and also omega3 from fish.

He also makes the point that we take care of our bodies and we take care of our hearts and eat healthy to lower our blood pressure ect. but we rarely if ever think to eat healthy to take care of our brains. Overall the book was a great read and Im now a firm believer that certain traumas we experience can cause us trouble mentally down the road. Basically the book is brain fitness and how through physical fitness and eating healthy can make a good brain great.

Energy Medicine:

This book Energy Medicine was recommended by my psychologist. It focuses on your bodies energy and how to use it to your advantage. Some of the chapters in the book include:

How To Eat Smarter
How To release Tension
How To Release Built Up Stress
How To Escape The Grip Of Fear
How To Get Back Into Control If You Feel Hysterical

Some of the chapters that are out there are:

Spinal Flush
Rhythmic 8's
The Stomach Points
Spinal Suspension

This book is what my psychologist tried to dump on me. She said my energy is messed up and said I need to re-direct and get my bodies energy field back in alignment. The premise is our bodies energy flows in one direction and if it becomes disturbed then we have to fix our "circuits", circuits as-in pressure points. So, an exercise such as those described in the book would have you start at a "circuit" or pressure point on the forehead for example and "direct" your energy by running your hands in a certain direction. I did most of these exercises in the book and found them to be ridiculous.

So, basically if you believe in using energy as a tool for medicine Id recommend this book. Some things in this book worked for me such as "How To Release Tension" but like most things you try it requires a stead fast mind set and someone who has a open mind. I can see how this book would help others but just not me. A lot of the stuff in this book is over my head and over my head isnt what I need but it does make for interesting reading and has a few helpful pointers for releasing stress. Overall I dont recommend this book.
